No Rhythm all Blues!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Last night’s run was intended to be a bit longer than the usual mile, but I just couldn’t get into my rhythm. My pace and cadence was all over the place and I just couldn’t settle into a comfortable zone. Kept thinking about more mileage and something my brother said to me about my Garmin nagging me…I spent most of the run trying to figure out what we were talking about.

My left side again plagued me with pain in my knee and calf…I really need to incorporate some stretching time.

The best part of the run was when I lapped an elderly lady walking and she said…”WOW, you’re running fast”. YES THE RUN WAS THAT GOOD!

Anyone have any suggestions on getting into your “zone, rhythm”?

Knees UP!

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Woohoo! Went out for my third run…yep I know I’m not at all consistent with days and have no schedule yet, but all in due time! I added a little loopdy doo to my run so I would reach a full mile. So my mile (actually it was 1.05 miles- but who’s counting) time was 13:11.

Wonder how that time is? Anyone, anyone…Bueller?

Well, the pain in the butt was gone, but I gotta start stretching the calves more. My legs felt really tired and horrible this run. A lot of fatigue mid-way through– then I started remember in that in ancient times (high-school) the mighty “Red Knights” coach would scream - KNEES UP - whenever he saw the look of pain in my face; amazingly enough that actually worked.

I have no idea if its a mental thing or if lifting your knees (besides lengthening your stride) alleviates the fatigue…again Anyone…

I will be attempting to schedule a run every Tuesday night and Thursday night, but who knows how it will pan out (life is in chaos with a toddler).

Later gators!

Can’t really Remember

Friday, August 1st, 2008

So I’m posting this after the fact, a few days after! I got my gadgety gadget to work, so my little run around the block was close to 1 mile. So, I have no idea how good or bad my time was, which is probably good. Anyway, the same pain in the butt and now calves started to pipe up…but I was out there.

Felt good on the cardio side, which is a plus!! More later!

OUCH!

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Yipee for me I got out for my first run in forever (really about 8 years)! So I expected the usual pains and thought I may have cardio short-comings as well, but Yikes! Ok, pain in the knees was expected, pain in the feet was expected, hamstrings yep, expected and I even expected some pain in the quads.

SO the answer is Check!, Yes to all of the above, but what I didn’t expect was the monkey jumper pain I felt in my glute (singular because it was only the left side)! For those who don’t know elementary school slang, take your thumb tuck it under your pointer finger, then make a fist…jab into the arm of your pal (making the muscle and the monkey “jump”) hence the monkey jumper! Imagine that pain every step right in the center of your butt cheek! Talk about pain the the a**!

Well I need to figure out how to get that monkey off my a** for my next run, because it was excruciating.

I’m going to have to report the distance tomorrow once I drive it; its not far, I say its just around the block, but where I am now that really has no consistent distance associated. Growing up and running “around the block” it was easy to calculate distance as I lived in a neighborhood and city that was created using square blocks. 8 blocks equaled one mile. Real simple to know how far you run. Here every subdivision is different and when I say I went around the block–who knows how far it really is, its basically a big loop…I start at the house end at the house and I turned four times!

Anyway, I didn’t use my cool gadgety gadget because I wanted to get out before the rain started again and I hadn’t set it up yet. So I’ll keep ya posted when I get it figured out.

Rained Out

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

My first training run was a rain out. I had high hopes of it being another down-pour with clear skies following an hour or so later, but no luck. The rain continued all night. UGH! Just another sign that I need to join a gym.

I’ll attempt again tonight. Not all was lost, since I had to sit inside I was able to read up on my newest toy, the Garmin Forerunner!! Can’t wait to actually put it to use. Woohoo!

Today’s Ambitions

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Well, today is the day I start training. I am hoping to get out later this evening about 8pm. I have strong ambitions of running 2 miles, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m going to go out at lunch to get a watch so that I can track my times. I still have to figure out the distance as I’m not real sure of a course around here that posts miles. Wish me luck. I chuckle as I say that, I’m sure there must be a million “newbies” starting that never get past the first couple of training days. Hopefully I won’t be one of them; I’m usually pretty determined–I’ll keep ya’ll posted.
